History of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan

This reproduction of the 1887 Ypsilanti Edition of Chief Blackbird's book delivers a rich history of the Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan along with a section detailing the grammar and parts of speech. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will benefit The Odawa Institute, a grassroots organization dedicated to the preservation of the Odawa Culture and retention of the Odawa Language.

J. Andrew Blackbird

Andrew J. Blackbird was born in Harbor Springs, Michigan in the nineteenth century.  A Native American of the Ottawa tribe, he served as a United States Interpreter for many years, and then became postmaster for what is now Harbor Springs, Michigan.
