The Regent's Daughter

Long after the creation of Power, rose three kingdoms: Shiin, Xu, and Liang. Separated by mountains and divided by politics and hatred, the lands sought to destroy one another, battling fiercely to determine an ultimate victor. As the war reached the peak of its intensity, fire rained from the sky, scorched the land, and destroyed the kingdoms' wills to fight. The war came to an end, negotiations resumed, and a time of peace reigned among the kingdoms. Now, over a century later, that peace is threatened. Determined to gather an army of gifted warriors, the Emperor of Shiin is seeking any who have Power, stopping at nothing to force them into his service. As a peasant living on the outskirts of Shiin's inner city, Reila never expected to be arrested and forcibly presented in court to the Emperor, much less retained within the palace walls indefinitely. Forced to act as a personal servant to the Empress, Reila must adjust to palace life and cope with the realization that she will never again see her family. Forces greater than any imperial mandate are at work however and Reila soon finds herself in a constantly shifting world where the gifted are lusted after, the Crown Prince is a traitor, and Reila herself is the key to ending all war.

Kara D. Wilson Kara D. Wilson has been writing creatively since the young age of 13. It has always been her dream to become a prominent, young adult author. Despite the fact that over the years she has written numerous novels, she has deemed the majority of them as "practice books." Her first novel, The Regent's Daughter, was published in 2012. Kara prides herself in writing strong, realistic characters who, despite their flaws and weaknesses, are relatable and personable. No matter the realm, she works to find a balance between the grit and harshness of reality and the fantasy of engaging characters and plots. Because Kara believes that reading a book should be not only an adventure but a learning experience wherein the reader learns and grows with the protagonist, she continuously emulates real-world problems and contentious issues to promote critical thinking and problem solving. Kara currently lives in McKinney, TX with her husband and four furry children. She graduated from the University of Arkansas with an MA in Communication in 2012. In her free time she enjoys playing piano, hiking, watching Japanese animation (anime), teaching ESL to foreign students, and working on her next novel.
