Lang is a “professional patient.” Starting when he was 12 years old, he has had over 35 surgeries or invasive procedures and spent, in the aggregate, over 60 days in at least 6 hospitals and countless partial days in outpatient surgery settings. He retired as an attorney after 43 years of practice. Rich has a B.S. in English from Loyola University and a J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law. His wife has a master’s degree in nursing and many of his closest friends are doctors. He met most of them through focusing his law practice on the business/legal needs of healthcare providers. He lives in suburban Chicago with his wife. Rich wrote Patient Confidential to inform and help others for their journey through the medical system, hospitalization and home recovery.
