A World War Two Novel

Long Ago and Far Away is set in the American Zone of Occupation in war-torn Germany just after the end of the Second World War. The St. Georgen Depot in rural Bavaria is part of the Allied effort to destroy captured poison gases and help bring about peace in an uncertain and trying time. Newly arrived Second Lt. Paul Mason is assigned there, and what takes place is seen through his eyes and day-to-day actions. Now in his seventies, conversations with his daughter and grandchildren recall his experiences as well as reveal the person he has since become after so many years.

Robert Eynon Sampson of Austin, TX Robert Eynon Sampson was born in New York City in 1925. He graduated from high school in 1942 and was inducted into the Army Chemical Warfare Service. He completed Officer Candidate School in 1946, and was stationed in the American Occupation Zone in Germany. After the Army, he earned degrees in Literature and History from the University of Miami and enjoyed a twenty-plus year career in the Pittsburgh steel industry. He remained self employed until retiring in 1994 and now lives in Austin, TX.
