Every week in worship services around the world hundreds of millions of Protestants, Catholics and Orthodox confess their faith by reciting the Nicene Creed. Now comes the first-ever book to teach children about this most widely accepted statement of the Christian faith. It will help parents, grandparents, and teachers engage 5 to 12 year olds in the marvelous light of God’s love for them. The lucid commentary will help children understand what we affirm by reciting the Creed, and why each of its affirmations is important to the Christian faith. The artwork will introduce children and adults to an ancient Christian style by evoking, but not imitating, the beautiful visual art of iconography. Added features include “Why Teach the Creed to Children,” and “Keywords For Kids” to help them grasp that even though some of the language may sound grown-up they can understand it and claim it for their own. The author wrote and illustrated this book for his own children and children everywhere.

The Nicene Creed is a remarkably rich document. It is deeply faithful to Holy Scripture, God’s Word; succinct, yet fully expressive of the Christian faith. For over 1,600 years – through theological divides between East and West, Catholic and Protestant, and among various denominations – the Nicene Creed has remained the universally accepted statement of the Christian faith. Christians around the world have agreed that these basic tenants of Christianity constitute the true faith, and that denying these constitutes a denial of true Christianity. Because of this, it unifies us in the midst of today’s individualistic culture. It is an act of heart-forming worship of the One True God. As we say the Nicene Creed, we are reminded that God is Triune: One God, but three persons. The Father is glorified, Christ is exalted, and the Holy Spirit is invited.

With beautiful illustrations, simple explanations, scriptural references, and keyword definitions, The Nicene Creed Illustrated and Instructed for Kids unpacks the most widely used statement of the faith in all of Christendom. Designed for adults to use to engage with children, each phrase of the Nicene Creed is illustrated and explained in easy to understand language that is helpful to adult and child alike.

Christians are responsible to teach God’s truths to children. Children are full members of the Body of Christ and deserve to know the truths of the Gospel of Christ.      It is why God says, “Make them known to your children and your children's children.” Deuteronomy 4:9 ESV

In this beautifully illustrated book, Joey Fitzgerald, Rector of the Church of the Outer Banks in Nags Head, NC, introduces children to the rich heritage of faith contained in the Creed. The Nicene Creed illustrated and Instructed for Kids is perfect for use in the home, in Sunday school, or in Christian school classrooms. It is accessible to even very young children and toddlers, while the embedded scripture references, glossary of terms, and discussion will help older children dig deeper and so prove a valuable tool in teaching them to explore the richness of the Christian faith for themselves.
