After twenty years of silence, Beers wrote Buried Memories revealing her life of sexual abuse and neglect before her infamous kidnapping which occurred 2 days before her tenth birthday, and her experience as she remained captive and locked in an underground box for 17 days while also being regularly sexually assaulted by her captor.
